[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]W[/dropcap2]e all need cheerleaders. Most of us need some really good ones.
Listen to this great statement tucked away in the New Testament: “Since we have such a great cloud of witnesses that has gone before us, let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
The implication is they’re watching, cheering us on. Can you imagine?
The picture that comes to my mind is a stadium or performing arts center where the crowd watches and reacts.
“Yes! Way to go!”
“Go, go, go! You’re almost there!”
“Oh, no! Stop! Don’t you see…”
And these are not mere spectators. They’ve been here and been through it. They get it. God has surrounded us with awesome cheerleaders and we’re never, ever alone.
Does this make a difference? It sure does to me.
The more I get a grip on this, the more courageous I become. My determination deepens. I feel a second wind (or third, or fourth) coming.
And I find myself yelling to my teammates, “Let’s do this! Keep at it! Way to go!”
In the midst of being cheered on, I become a cheerleader. It’s infectious.
Okay. Now, close your eyes. Get quiet.
Can you hear them?
