[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]I[/dropcap2] don’t think I actually ever heard, “You’ll never be good enough,” but I got the message loud and clear. And I believed it. After all, they were the adults. They knew.
So I began to perform. I’ve been performing ever since.
“You’ll never be good enough,” must be common, because I frequently hear it from others in a variety of ways:
- “I’ll never get any better.”
- “I’m a failure.”
- “Other people aren’t like this. Something must be wrong with me.”
- “I’ve got to prove I’m not a loser!”
Can you think of some other versions?
Is this buried in your heart too? If so, don’t worry. Don’t be ashamed. I get it, and I’m in it with you. So are millions if not billions of others.
And I have some really good news. Jesus is good enough. He is good enough all the time. He is good enough for the both of us, in fact for all of us. He loves and accepts you. He delights in you and wants you. And he is no dummy. He knows exactly what he is doing!
So you can stop trying to be good enough. Yes! You can rest, my friend. Let him have you. Tune your heart to his voice. Here comes the healing…
