[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]J[/dropcap2]ackie couldn’t hear me at all. In fact, she couldn’t hear anyone. We got her a hearing aid.
The next visit, I bounded in, asking, “Hey Jackie. How’re you today?”
“Huh?” she responded.
“How’re you doing?” I repeated, a little louder.
“Huh?”
“You’re not wearing your hearing aid, are you!?” I yelled.
“Huh?”
The hearing aid was still in its box beside her in the bed.
“Oh, that!” she said, waving a hand. “That’s too much trouble”.
Jackie had given up. She felt hopeless.
Hopelessness is ugly. It’s time to dig deep. We must persevere. Those who love us need us to rise and do battle again. New hope is out there. We just have to keep moving forward to find it.
This takes courage.
Read this out loud with me: Living courageously means persevering. My life counts. I will not give up.
You count. You were created in God’s image. You have a purpose and a destiny beyond your wildest dreams. Persevere. You’ll be glad you did.
