“Not long, Sandy,” I answered. “Fess up. What’re you thinking about?”
“Well,” she said, “About my house. . .about my favorite thing in my house. I don’t have it any more and I sure miss it.”
“What was it?” I asked.
“Leonard,” she said.
Leonard, Sandra’s husband, had passed away years ago. It’s not really the stuff that’s precious to us, is it? It’s the people.
Things can change in an instant. My dad dropped of a heart attack and was gone. When my friend Jeff in junior high contracted spinal meningitis, he passed within a week. Illnesses, accidents, and natural disasters strike unforeseen. Now is the time to let the people know we love them. Today. Every day. And sometimes that takes courage.
Say it with me: I need courage to live the truth that life is all about relationships.
Say what you need to say, now. The past is behind you. The future is before you. You have now.
Let’s be courageous and love – now.
