[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]M[/dropcap2]arvin had outlived all his family and friends. He passed the time pushing his walker around the hallways of his assisted living facility. As we walked, he shared about his life. His background was chocked full of pain and hardship.
Here’s one of Marvin’s favorite sayings: “Some people ask ‘Why me?’ ‘Why not me?’ makes more sense.”
Whoa.
Bad things happen to wonderful people. Painful stuff occurs. “Why is this happening?” becomes “Why me?” in a heartbeat.
“Why me?” shrinks our world. Life becomes about us – protecting ourselves rather than loving others. Let’s not dare miss out on the powerful blessings found only in difficulty and suffering. We can choose to live as grateful overcomers.
That takes great courage.
Say it with me: If I want to live courageously, I need a larger view of pain and suffering.
Live with boldness. Trust God to turn every roadblock and pothole into growth.
