[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]L[/dropcap2]aughter is a good thing. I got plenty of it last week.
My youngest daughter (I still have trouble believing she’s eighteen) recently had surgery to remove hardware from an elbow. She’s normally funny, but in recovery and on the way home she was downright hilarious.
Here’s just a smattering of our conversation on the drive home from the hospital. Actually, it was a monologue. I don’t remember saying a word. Keep in mind the following was pure stream-of-consciousness, all rammed together without a single break.
Oh, and it was Christmas Eve.
“Daddy, it was so cool. They put this mask on me and I felt like Darth Vader. Cooo, cuhh, cooo, cuhh! (Darth Vader breathing sounds). Luuuuke…I… am… your… FATHER! Look! Toyota! What if it was To-Yoda? (In her best Yoda-voice) Hmmm. Yes, my young padawan, dreaming of a white Christmas I am! Ha! Look! Pop-Eyes! What if eyes really popped? Eww! Gross! (A leaf hits the windshield) How rude! Leaf me alone! Wahaha! Hey! What’s that guy doing? Where did he learn to drive, in a backyard somewhere? So when are we gonna open presents, and what did you get me, and what am I having for dinner? I’m starving! Do we have ice cream? Is it Vanilla? That sign says they have 23 clean restrooms. How do they know? How often do they check? Are they checking them now? (giggle).”
You get the idea. The total monologue lasted about 45 minutes. It was awesome. And yes, I have some of it on video.
We can be funny, can’t we? I’m certainly glad God has a sense of humor. In this very challenging world, I’m more grateful than ever for the gift of laughter.
That’s a good goal for 2014. Laugh more. Find more reasons to laugh. Loosen up a little. Live in reality, but see the humor in it too.
Question: What have you laughed about in the last 24 hours?

I laughed hysterically watching my 9 yr old grandson learning how to jump on a pogo stick. His balance isn’t all that great. But he is learning and having a blast doing it.
