[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]”W[/dropcap2]hat’s happening to me?” Sally exclaimed, burying her face in her hands. “Am I going crazy?”
Sally had COPD. She was on oxygen and struggled to breathe most of the time. Just moving across the room was an arduous adventure.
On top of this, her family was, well, very dramatic. They seemed to seek stress and create crisis. Emotional tension skyrocketed when they were around.
“No Sally, I don’t think you’re going crazy,” I responded. “You’re in a crazy situation. Somehow, you have to stay separate from the circus around you.”
The world is nutty, even insane at times. We’re frequently surrounded by craziness. We’re affected by this, but we don’t have to be swept along by it. Jesus never takes his cues from the circus around him. He can empower us to stay separate, see the craziness for what it is, and respond in love.
After this, Sally was all smiles. She learned to feel peaceful. “Observe the circus, but don’t become a part of it. I think I’m getting it!” she said.
Just then her family knocked loudly on the door.
Sally sighed. “Guess it’s time for my daily dose of crazy!”
