Rita had lymphoma and was rapidly losing weight, but there was certainly nothing wrong with her mind. Her sense of humor was wonderful.
Rita’s husband had passed away two years before. When she talked about him, her eyes brightened and her usual brilliant smile became even more charming. “I miss him so much. He was such a good, good man.”
When her husband died, the color went out of Rita’s life. Though she was delightful to visit with, you got the sense that she was marking time until she could move on and see him again.
Hopefully we all have people in our lives that bring joy to our hearts and light to our eyes. They’re the real spice of life. When we’re with them, it’s as if the rest of the world disappears and time stops. Our hearts are connected and thrilled. These are the near perfect moments in this life.
If we don’t already, it’s time to cherish these special relationships. These people need to hear how important they are and what they mean to our hearts. Let’s gaze into their eyes, and thank God for these incredible gifts.
