[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]”I[/dropcap2]f you don’t want to get shot,” Grady said, “Don’t go looking down the gun barrel!”
Grady was a stream-of-consciousness kind of guy. The subject jumped from here to there quicker than a jackrabbit with his tail on fire. Whatever entered Grady’s mind found its way right on down and out his mouth.
“Don’t sit there unless you want your rear-end flattened.”
“Help! I’m in a pit. I need a rope. You have a rope?”
“I’m ready. Sort of. Maybe. Sometimes.”
“I’m glad I’ve still got my mind. Don’t know exactly where it is, but it’s here somewhere.”
“Can you get me out of here? Let’s blow this joint!”
All Grady’s wanderings were based in reality. Here’s my translation of the above statements:
- Don’t dive into something unless you’re ready for the consequences.
- Life can be confusing and sometimes painful.
- We all have pits we need help getting out of.
- We can have great faith, but still be plagued by doubt.
- We can feel crazy living in this crazy world. Who doesn’t want to escape from time to time?
Those are five simple facts that just might get us through today, and tomorrow, and the day after that.
We need wisdom, don’t we? We need to know what to do, how, and when.
Say it with me: Part of living courageously is being on the lookout for wisdom.
Now, if we can just quit looking down that gun barrel…
