[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]L[/dropcap2]ast time, we talked about why comfort zones are not comfortable. They feel good at first, but over time they anesthetize our hearts. We long for refuge in the midst of a demanding, sometimes abusive world. So we create “zones” to protect ourselves. The danger comes when these zones, meant to be temporary rest stops, become permanent dwellings.
How do we break out?
Here are three keys:
1. Get to know you.
Discover who you are and why you’re here. Think big. Then think bigger. You are created in the image of God for an eternal purpose. Your life has meaning far beyond your comprehension. The world wants to beat this out you. You must not let it.
2. Find people who inspire you.
Connect regularly, preferably daily, with hearts and voices that motivate you to live courageously. Who inspires you? Make the phone call, go to the website, listen to the podcast, read the book. Refuse to be gobbled up by the demands around you. Invest in you.
3. Serve!
You were designed for impact, and that comes through giving yourself in service to others. Ironically, you benefit the most when you serve those who can’t give back to you. Get out there! It’s a needy, hurting world, and it needs you. You have a crucial role to play.
As we consistently apply these things, I believe we’ll grow. We can’t let those temporary rest stops become home base. We’re on a journey. We’re passing through. Together we can learn to travel light and bring hope to others along the way.
