[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]W[/dropcap2]e seem to be obsessed with comfort. After all, who likes being uncomfortable?
Yet we know we need to be stretched to grow. If we were in charge, we’d make sure the stretching was, well, comfortable. But we’re not in charge. We live in a world of dynamic relationships and change. We not only get stretched, we get twisted into shapes that would cause a pretzel to wince.
The dream of wild adventure and slaying evil dragons fades. The hope of being the stunning beauty sought by the heroic knight splutters. Our wounded hearts grow weary. We contemplate our scars and build walls to try and insure our safety.
Comfort zones develop. The walls we erect harden. Weeds grow. Our hearts lose their voice. We become shadows. Our lives become filled with sighing as our souls cry, even scream, for something more. We hurry to silence them. No more pain. Please, no more pain.
We turn to drugs, alcohol, and pornography. We indulge in food, entertainment, sex, video games, and technology. Anything to numb the pain and quiet the incessant yearning inside.
Dysfunction becomes a comfort zone. We don’t know how else to be. And the comfort zone becomes anything but comfortable.
We must break out of this. We must become free.
We can.
Make sure you tune in next time…
