[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]I[/dropcap2]n the last post, I said the wait was over – the Zombie Apocalypse is upon us.
It’s us.
We resemble mindless, wandering, insatiably hungry beings devouring everything in sight. We walk and talk, but often we’re dead inside. We fake it, posing and posturing to get what we think we want. Many of us can look back and see the trail of bodies behind us.
We must stop this living death. It’s time to deal with the zombie within.
How do we do that? Here are a few suggestions:
1. Own up and identify your zombie-habits. What are the parts of you that smell dead? What thoughts, motives, attitudes, actions, and communication patterns keep you from more fully living out God’s adventure for you?
2. Give your zombie-ness to God. Own up before God. He knows all your zombie-stuff already. Let it go. Give it to him. Tell him you don’t want it anymore but you know you can’t handle it (if you could, you would have by now, right?). Ask him to come in and work on it. You want to really live.
3. Don’t let the zombie-within trick you. That old zombie-part of you wants to trick you into thinking you are it. That dead part is not who you are. You don’t have to give in to it. Living a zombie-like life is a choice.
4. Live as the Zombie-slaying hero instead. You want to really live, right? The New Testament says that Jesus is life. He is eternal life. He has been through death and defeated it. He knows how to do real life thing like nobody else. As he exerts his influence in our lives, the zombie-within trembles. We begin to really live.
It’s time for all of us to quit running and confront the sneaky, conniving, zombie-like junk in our lives. The stakes are high and time is precious.
