[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]”S[/dropcap2]ome people’s lives seem to be a war from the beginning,” my doctor said. “And it’s not like they’ve done anything to cause that. It’s like difficulty follows them.”
We had been talking about my life. She was speaking about me.
“I don’t have to understand that,” she continued. “But it’s that way for you. I don’t have anything to tell you except keeping fighting, and fight well.”
We could wish the battles would get easier, or go away. Don’t evil and difficulty ever take a vacation? Can’t we get some rest, or at least a little relief now and then?
The reality is that we do get rest and relief, but the battles are often so fierce and draining that we never feel we win. We’re just trying to hold our position and not be overrun.
What can you do if your life feels like a war?
- Stop expecting life to be smooth. It’s not.
- Stop trying to be in control. You’re not.
- Accept that life is partially designed to bring you to the end of your own strength so you can experience something greater.
- Begin to see that life is mostly about overcoming trouble, not evading it.
- Begin to look for peace in the storm instead of a way out.
- Be grateful for the valleys, for it’s there that God walks with us most visibly.
Yes, you were born for this battle. You may not feel like a warrior today, but you are. So keep fighting, and fight well.
