[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]W[/dropcap2]e’ve all been wounded. Most have been badly hurt, betrayed, rejected, or abandoned. Many have been abused sexually, physically, or verbally.
These wounds run deep. They bruise our souls. We develop mental reflexes designed to protect us because in our hearts we’ve resolved that we’ll never go through that kind of pain again.
Then another blow comes. The bruises expand, and we wonder if we’ll ever recover.
Here’s some good news for the wounded:
1. We’re in good company. Jesus was wounded.
As I read the Gospels, I see a man who was misunderstood, reviled, false accused, gossiped against, heckled, threatened, betrayed, abandoned, falsely tried and convicted, beaten, whipped, abused, and murdered. He knows. He gets it. He understands.
2. Jesus cares about our wounds because he cares about us.
Jesus invites us to come to him. He loves us and cares deeply about our soul bruises.
3. Jesus volunteered to be wounded so that we could heal.
By his wounds, we are healed, the prophet Isaiah said. Jesus has this power. He turns things around. He wants to touch our hurt places and bring healing. He longs to bring forgiveness, joy, emotional healing, peace, new courage, deeper love, and freedom from fear.
4. As we trust Jesus, we experience him. As we experience him, we heal.
Nothing heals like companionship with Jesus. As we seek and experience him, his love begins to soften our hard spots. Life becomes about simply being with him. Our trust level grows. Healing is a natural result.
We walk with one who understands. Thank goodness.
Let the healing continue…
