[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]W[/dropcap2]e live in interesting, troubled times.
Like most, I’ve been watching this whole government-shutdown-thing. I’ve been listening and observing. I’ve tried to separate myself from the issues (almost impossible to do, but I tried) and get in touch with what I sense around me.
Here’s what I’ve noticed:
Anger
The tone of comments and conversations is hot and seems to be escalating.
Frustration
People are shaking their heads and throwing their up their arms.
Confusion
I see many furrowed brows, tilted heads, and blank looks. People are wondering what’s really going on.
Apathy
Some are throwing in the towel, shrugging their shoulders, and walking away, sick of controversy and feeling like there’s nothing they can personally do to make a difference.
Fear
I can see it behind the eyes of some. The question “How will this affect me, my family, and my future?” is transitioning into “Is our way of life coming to an end?”
What have you noticed? What do you sense?
It’s the apathy that concerns me most. Once we no longer care, we lose hope, and our lives begin to shrink.
We can’t afford to let that happen. How can we respond? We’ll discuss that more in the next post.
