[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]I[/dropcap2]n the previous post, we began to answer the question “How do I know what God wants me to do?” If you haven’t read that post, I would recommend you check it out before reading further.
Once that first hurdle is past, things really get interesting. To help determine what’s best, try these five questions:
1. Which option enables you to love God and people in a deeper way?
2. Which path is most consistent with what you know of God’s mission and purpose for your life?
3. Which option reminds you of Jesus more?
4. Is one of the options such that if you don’t pursue it, you’ll wonder for years what would’ve happened if you had?
5. What do the people who know you best say?
As you work your way through these questions, most likely one option will emerge as the frontrunner. But you still may not be 100% sure. I rarely am.
That’s where what I call Rule 51 comes in. Rule 51 has nothing to do with Area 51. At least, as far as I know (insert Twilight Zone or X-Files theme here).
After I’ve done everything I know to do to make the best decision, I go with the one I’m leaning toward, even if it’s a slim 51% lean.
Honestly, I almost never have a 51% decision. Most of time, my leanings are 70% and up, but you get my point.
In fact, I believe there are times when God may be saying, “Go ahead. Just choose,” while we fret and worry over what to do.
So have nothing to do evil, seek God the best you know how, and choose.
