[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]L[/dropcap2]ove. We say we need it, that it makes the world go round. Yet we seem to be confused about what it is.
Agape is a word translated “love” that rarely appears in classical Greek but permeates the New Testament. It describes the highest kind of love – the seeking of the ultimate good of other party in what is thought, said, and done.
God loves like this. As we experience His agape, passing it on to others becomes possible. We can only give away what we’ve received.
Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love the Lord with all our heart, mind, and strength – and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. We need to seek our highest good. What’s that? Knowing and receiving the love that God has for us. This empowers us to love others.
