[dropcap2 variation=”coffee”]M[/dropcap2]ildred’s room was a deep, dark cave. She’d sit in her recliner facing the window, curtains drawn.
“Hello, Mildred. How are you?”
“Alone, like usual,” she’d respond. “That’s my life. But I’m fine.”
Loneliness is epidemic. We carry smart phones and think we’re connected. Yet we feel more alone than ever.
I feel alone a lot. That scares me, so I keep myself too busy to feel or think much about it. Sad.
We feel alone. Are we?
“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me. . .” (Psalm 23)
Yes! Thank goodness our feelings aren’t facts. We’re not alone. Never have been, never will be.
If we really dared to live this truth, it could make all the difference.
Living with great purpose, even when we feel lonely, requires courage.
Read this out loud with me: Living courageously means accepting I am never alone. As I live based on facts, my feelings will eventually follow.
Let’s get out of our own heads today and engage with the people around us. Let’s ask good questions and invest in people. Let’s refuse to let loneliness carry the day. We’ll live courageously.
